Animation Director
Immersive Ride Film
Director: Brent Young
VFX Supervisor: Walt Jones
Oversaw Previz, Layout and Final Animation
The Lost Temple was the world’s first “full field of vision” Immersion Tunnel attraction, and was also the first attraction to be developed with Super 78's Mushroom VR system. The high-adrenaline adventure takes riders on a perilous trip into a subterranean realm that is home to an ancient Mayan temple. And down in these long-hidden caverns, dinosaurs still rule the earth.
Surrounded by Dinosaurs
The Lost Temple was my first project at the newly formed Tau Films.
It began as a lean, remote studio with one artist per department.
I was responsible for all Previz, camera, and layout, as well as a portion of the animation. I eventually brought on a small team of animators to tackle the unique demands of the format.

Blurb

Unlike a feature film's single flat screen perspective, this project's screen wrapped around the ride. It required nearly 360 degrees of fully animated content.
Every character on screen tracked and animated at all times, within one long take.
No small feat!
On the Rift
Tau developed a proprietary camera tool allowing animators to view exactly what riders would see, reviewable in real time through an Oculus headset.
This let us refine details and catch issues well before construction of the physical ride ever began -
"An industry first!"
