Oversaw Previz, Postviz and Final Animation
My central role at Tau Films was establishing and overseeing the Animation Department from the ground up. Founded in 2013, Tau Films carved out its niche as a lean, remote VFX studio producing films, commercials, and immersive entertainment, well ahead of the curve, before the pandemic pushed the rest of the industry to catch up.
My experience at Tau Films ingrained a forward-thinking production approach in me, one tailored to the tightening schedules and remote workflows that have since become the industry's new normal.
Working in a smaller studio means wearing many hats, and this project was no exception. We were tasked with delivering high-end, hyper-realistic VFX creature animation on a tight budget and an even tighter schedule. I leaned heavily on fast, efficient pre and post production workflows, surfacing issues early and getting them in front of the director quickly to keep the approval process moving. Assembling leads who were not only top-tier but fully committed and able to thrive under pressure was absolutely paramount to delivering the work at scale.
We developed and Animated 141 creature shots within an 8 month timeline.
Creating multiple furred creatures on a tight schedule is no easy task.
The team powered through the task using Ziva for the hero white jaguar.
Creature Work
Our cast of animated creatures included the lead in the film, a giant white jaguar. Scaled 20% bigger than a real leopard, it loomed large among the live action actors.
Monkeys of varying sizes were also among the CG animals, as well as a wild boar.
